Wittering Premiair remain top of the Peterborough League Division One table after a 10-0 victory against Eunice Huntingdon

Wittering Premiair plundered 10 goals to record their 10th successive Peterborough League victory on Saturday.

Andrew Moss hit five goals for the unbeaten Division One table-toppers with Lee Booker, Lee Croft, Grant Tippett, Ash Middleton and Richard Thompson also on target against visiting Eunice Huntingdon.

It was an emphatic return to action for the Harriers who had been sidelined for the past five weeks due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their scheduled return last weekend against Stamford Bels was postponed due to the tier issues which also affected their availability on Saturday.

They were unable to play Jack Travers and player-boss Sam Cayley, but their manager could attend in that capacity by keeping his distance from other personnel.

The game started very evenly with both sides playing some tidy football and the hosts created a couple of early chances from set pieces where Jamie McFee was unlucky not to put Wittering Premiair ahead.

The deadlock was broken in the 17th minute as a neatly-crafted move was finished by a lovely ball into Moss from Middleton and the Harriers hitman slid his shot past the onrushing goalkeeper.

The hosts then suffered a setback when Moss was sin-binned for 10 minutes after disagreeing with a decision when he felt he had been body-checked during a Wittering Premiair attack.

The Harriers solidified their set-up to manage the situation and doubled their lead 10 minutes after Moss’ return to action.

He began the move with some hold-up play before laying off to Simon Farrow who in turn squared the ball for Croft to rifle home from 16 yards out.

Wittering Premiair continued their attacking threat and added a third goal on the stroke of half-time with Croft this time turning provider to tee up strike partner Moss to bag his brace.

Eunice have proved over recent seasons that they don’t give up easily which made the next goal important for the unravelling of the tie.

And it was the Wittering Premiair skipper Tippett who stepped up to the mark as Middleton made it a hat-trick of assists with a cracking ball across the box for their captain to finish from close range and make it 4-0 after 55 minutes.

It was at this point that Wittering Premiair stepped it up a notch with relentless attacks and seemingly no threat on the counter.

Moss completed his hat-trick just before the hour mark with Croft again the provider for the second time in the day.

Wittering continued to press high and Moss wasn’t finished his scoring spree on one of those days where everything sat right for the marksman.

His team-mates continued to create the openings and Josh Watson lifted a lovely ball over the top right into Moss’ stride to score his fourth and Wittering Premiair’s sixth from outside the box.

Harriers were now in cruise control and, with their tails up, pushed for more goals.

A sumptuous ball in by Watson was flicked on by James Savage and finally headed in from point blank range by Booker for their seventh after 77 minutes.

They then won the ball back from kick-off through Steven Colangelo who began to stride forward and slotted his pass to Moss who took on four defenders, leaving a couple on the floor, before stroking home his fifth goal as he entered the box.

Wittering Premiair then scored their best goal of the game as Luke Smith set up Middleton who fired home a cracking long distance strike into the top corner.

The scoring was completed when Harriers hit double figures as terrific work down the left wing from Moss saw him square his pass to Richard Thompson who netted his first goal for the club.

Boss Cayley said: “After a long time off, we knew that this game was going be a tough one. We were missing a few players which was also not helpful.

“We knew from playing Eunice previously that they were well organised and drilled and their league position reflected this.

“We started brightly by pressing high and worked very effectively. I thought when Mossy got sin-binned and we went down to 10 men that we still looked dangerous and controlled the game well.

“The boys worked their socks off for the whole 90 minutes and played for each other all across the pitch and we reaped the rewards.

“They deserve a massive well done and thanks also has to go to Brad Kendall who is the A team keeper and helped us out at the last minute.

“He was solid and kept the club’s first clean sheet of the season which is always pleasing.

“We now have one more game before Christmas which is a tough one away at FC Peterborough on Saturday.

“In previous seasons we have always found it difficult there. Even though we’ve started well we know there are some very good teams in the league and the boys are aware we need to be on it and turn up ready for every game with the same attitude.”

Wittering Premiair Reserves returned to winning ways in Division Two on Saturday after a defeat last week.

They ran out 2-0 home winners against FC Hampton thanks to goals from Ben Calvo-Otterwell and Aidan Doherty.

The B team completed a good day for the club as they returned from their Division Five trip to Dreams Reserves with an emphatic 8-1 win.

Sam Allan struck four goals for the Harriers while Ben Roberts hitting a hat-trick and Dene Murthwaite also on target.
