Recently returned Jamie Goddard who came back after a long term ACL injury started on the bench and came on in the second-half.

From the first whistle, both teams came out and created chances.

Louie Jarvis, Luke White and Kian Sketchley provided good pressure on the Deeping keeper during the first-half with Ross Woolley cleaning up a few challenges from the back between the sticks for The Highwaymen.

This included a good effort in the 20th minute when Woolley came out and successfully thwarted a dangerous Deeping attack.

A long run by Kian Sketchley in the 31st minute saw him set the ball up nicely for Luke White who converted the opportunity into a goal with a well placed shot between the Deeping keeper’s legs.

The goal saw The Highwaymen go into the break up 1-0 at half-time.

The two sides came out once more and the hosts looked to extend the lead.

Liam Moran doubled the deficit in the 64th minute as he netted his 16th goal of the season.

Moran fired one over the line after his first attempt was saved.

Soon after Moran rattled the cross bar and he was inches away from getting his brace.

Throughout the match The Highwaymen hit the wood work on several occasions and were unlucky to not be up by at least another goal or two at that stage of the game.

Robert Conyard pinned one back for Deeping in the 76th minute after he converted from the spot following a penalty.

Several minutes later Liam Mays was fouled on the edge of the box and Deeping were reduced to ten men as a red card was handed out to their captain Tom Smith.

The game stayed at 2-1 until the final whistle to see Newark and Sherwood United string a nice run of three league wins in a row.

The other two victories in the league recently came from a 2-0 win over Pinchbeck and a 3-1 thriller against Heanor Town at home.

Romaine Graham’s side now sit in 13th position in the table out of 18 teams and will be hoping to continue their good run of form.

Assistant manager Tristian Spencer who has been at the club for a few weeks said that things seemed to be clicking at the moment.

“When Romaine called me down to support him, it was a an easy decision.

“It is something I’ve been doing for a while at Ilkeston and Clifton.

“I know Romaine had a plan and this is a good project for us to get into, we know we can make a difference.

“I am a passionate guy and I love the game.

“When the boys are running for us like they are and giving everything, following the instructions like they are, it is just a real pleasure.

“Romaine is so prepared, his tactics are there, everything is broken down and the boys have taken on the fine details.
“We are hoping to finish the end of the season strong.

“If you saw what we did during the game, we switched formations several times to accommodate what the opposition was doing.

“We are confident that we can get some momentum behind us.”

Glen Cobb was a happy vice chairman of the club as he spoke to Dave Pickerill from the club’s media section.

“The lads put the effort in and they got the reward again.

“Three wins on the trot, it has been a long time coming and we will relish the day.”

The Highwaymen will now travel to play Belper United on Saturday, (kick-off 3pm).
