Burghley Park Golf Club are competing in the Taskers Trophy competition

The Taskers Trophy competition is a national inter-club singles match play knock-out competition for female golfers aged 50 or over.

The initial round is decided by the aggregate score of two matches, played home and away.

Burghley Park ladies have entered two teams this year - Taskers A being drawn against Retford GC and Taskers B facing the Nottinghamshire Golf Club.

Following a great away win at the Nottinghamshire (winning 4-3), the ladies Taskers B team continued their winning ways by beating them 5-2 in the home leg, giving a convincing winning aggregate score of 9-5.

Both matches were closely fought in true Burghley fashion.

Team captain Anne Fensom, who didn’t play in the match, congratulated the players and their caddies and commented that Burghley is very lucky to have such an enthusiastic Taskers squad. The team now moves on to the next round which will be played at home.

Taskers A have played their home match against Retford, winning 4.5-2.5. Their away match is scheduled for the end of this month.

Eight pairs of ladies took part in the initial round of the Australian Spoons foursomes competition on Sunday.

This is another national competition, for players with handicaps over 15.

The winning team of Gill Bedford and Lynda Lancaster took advantage of the perfect conditions for golf with warm sunshine and true running greens and came in with a score of 36.

They were closely followed by Karen Collins and Natalie Jones with 35 while Elaine Brown and Barbara Newell came third with 34 points.

Gill and Lynda are not yet guaranteed a place in the regional final, as teams may enter as many times as they wish up to the closing date.

The previous Sunday saw the annual ‘Burghley Masters’ competition which is always held on the same day as the final round of the Augusta Masters.

Twenty-two teams of four, comprising any mixture of gents and ladies, enjoyed this fiercely fought four-ball AM-AM competition.

However, the scoring is made more interesting by the two best scores being doubled up on ‘Amen Corner’ (the tricky 12th, 13th and 14th holes) and all scores counting on the ninth and 18th holes.

The team of Adi Ward, Trevor Smith, Dave Tilley and Stuart Parker were the runaway winners with a final total of 109.

Second place was claimed on countback by the mixed team of Keith Duff, Richard Gilbert, Janet Farrington and Janet Duff with third place going to Paul Evans, Andy Carr, Philip Murphy and Mark Yarham, both teams scoring 104 points.
