Stamford AFC Women make progress in the FA Cup after victory over Long Eaton United

History was created at the Zeeco Stadium on Sunday when Stamford Women reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time ever.

They recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory against Long Eaton Women in the third qualifying round clash.

Having already beaten Arnold Town in the earlier round, Stamford were in confident mood against their lower level opponents.

The ladies got off to a flying start when striker Emma Pollard was brought down in the box within the first two minutes of the game. She dusted herself off and fired the penalty home to make it 1-0.

Laura Dodwell doubled the lead after 20 minutes but thereafter the ladies struggled to break down a determined Long Eaton defence.

Stamford started really well in the second half and Pollard was unlucky not to score after being denied by excellent save from the opposition goalkeeper.

The third goal eventually came after 75 minutes when Milly Ramm scored from close range.

The ladies added a fourth with two minutes remaining when Pollard raced into the box and her right footed shot beat the diving keeper.

They will now host Worcester City in the next round on Sunday, November 3.
