Terrific effort from Lawson Capes when throwing for Lincolnshire in the Inter-Counties competition at Barnsley

Bourne Grammar School pupil Lawson Capes ended his season on a high by stamping his name in the history books.

Capes broke the 18-metre barrier in the shot put event when throwing for Lincolnshire in the Inter-Counties competition at Barnsley.

He did it in fine style by hitting 18.31m in his first throw to amaze the on-looking spectators who all applauded his efforts.

His feat has not been seen in many years in this age group and his shot and discus combination was the second best performance ever.

Lawson has finished the season with the third all-time best throw for his age group in the indoor shot put, fourth in the outdoor shot and fifth in the discus.

He is the grandson of former British shot putter, strongman and professional Highland Games competitor Geoff Capes.
