Bourne Tennis Club stages its finals day at the Abbey Lawn
The annual finals day at Bourne Lawn Tennis Club produced some memorable matches.
As a result of the shortened season due to Covid-19, this year’s junior tournaments were unfortunately not able to take place.
However, the senior events were given the green light and the socially distanced spectators were given some cracking contests to watch.
The men’s singles was a repeat of last year’s final between John Timson and Nathan Jones.
John won the title last year in a thrilling match – and this year’s match was equally competitive with the pendulum swinging throughout, however, it was Nathan who eventually triumphed 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The ladies singles was a cracking contest between Cathy Lee and Joyce Slater with Cathy finally victorious with a 6-3, 6-1 scoreline.
The men’s doubles gave losing singles finalist John Timson the chance to gain revenge with partner Iain Ross against Nathan Jones and Tom Cooke.
It was a fantastic match with some amazing and close rallies and, despite losing the second set, John and Iain eventually won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The ladies’ doubles featured Helen Whitfield and Harriet May against Liz Williams and Sarah Chappell.
It was another thrilling match that was played at a great tempo and was eventually won by Helen and Harriet 6-3, 6-1.
To round off the afternoon the mixed doubles final featured John Timson and Helen Whitfield against Tom Cooke and Harriet May.
A close contest with some top-class rallies saw John and Helen triumphant 6-1, 6-4.
