Deepings Triathlon Club – whose motto is Dig Deep ‘N’ Tri – saw its first young member Tom Neal, 15, compete in the Tallington Lakes Triathlon along with his dad Stuart.

The club, led by coaches Dave Cross and Clare Wookey, formed in early May and is going from strength to strength. There are now about 30 athletes on the books.

They worked really hard over the winter to get their Level 2 Triathlon coaching awards and gained the support of local organisations such as Deeping St James Parish Council, Bourne and Market Deeping town councils as well as the Deeping Rotary Club to get the club up and running for 8 to 16-year-olds in the area.

Wookey said: “Tom’s achievement in his first adult sprint distance is phenomenal and a credit to his hard work over the last few months.”

Stuart Neal, the triathlon club chairman, came in 25th as Tom held on to seventh place – completing the run in 21:07 and crossing the finish line at 1:19:17.
