Stamford Lions' match at Parson Drove in the Peterborough League Premier Division is called off due to a lack of pitch markings

Stamford Lions' scheduled Peterborough League match away at Parson Drove was postponed on Saturday due to the pitch at the Wisbech-based club not being marked out.

Lions were stripped and ready for kick-off in the Premier Division match but, on entering the pitch 10 minutes prior, it was evident there was no markings.

Despite attempts to get it done, referee Oliver Hollyoak had no choice but to abandon the game at 2.30pm with the pitch unplayable without the required markings.

Lions Reserves are still searching for their first points of the Division Three season after twice losing a lead to fall to a 4-3 reversal against Hampton Reserves on Saturday.

Jack Neath opened the scoring with an excellent finish to give Lions an early advantage before Sean Edwards made it 2-0 midway through the first half.

Miles Dearden was then guilty of a foul inside the area that resulted in Hampton pulling a goal back from a penalty spot early in the second half.

The visitors then got back on level terms shortly after with a fine strike which levelled the contest at 2-2.

Edwards then struck his second goal to restore the Lions' lead but that was soon cancelled out as Hampton levelled once more.

It looked like the game was heading for a draw until the final minute of the match when Hampton snatched a winning goal as a free-kick into the area was not dealt with and finished at the far post.

The loss leaves Lions' second string rooted to the foot of the table and manager Jonny Harrison felt his side deserved at least a draw.

He said: “It was painful to lose that game because I felt we fully deserved a point.

"We work hard and for the first time this season had a lead to defend but we just let the concentration levels drop and we are too easy to penetrate.

"It's been a tough start to the season with some long away games against decent sides while trying to build confidence in the players that have stepped up from the A team last season.

"It's important that we learn from these matches and just make ourselves that bit more difficult to beat."
