Andrew Richardson ends his coaching stint with US Open winner Emma Raducanu

The Bourne Tennis Club protégé who helped guide Emma Raducanu to glory has ended his coaching stint with the US Open winner.

Andrew Richardson - who progressed through the ranks at the Abbey Lawn club as a youngster before turning professional - had been working on a short-term contract with Raducanu.

However, the 18-year-old announced at a 'homecoming party' staged by the Lawn Tennis Association at the National Tennis Centre in London that the duo would now be going their separate ways.

Raducanu said: "At this stage of my career I really need someone that has had that Women's Tennis Association Tour experience at that high level.

"Especially right now as I'm so new to it, I think I really need someone just to guide me who has already been through that themselves.

"Never did I even dream of winning the US Open and now I'm ranked 22 in the world, which is pretty crazy to me."

Richardson grew up Bourne and began playing tennis at the Abbey Lawn club as a junior where he was selected for the national squad after showing great promise.

The 47-year-old went on to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup against Zimbabwe and also played in three Wimbledon’s, reaching the third round in 1997 before losing to Greg Rusedski.

Richardson then turned to coaching and joined Raducanu’s team after she had reached the fourth round of Wimbledon earlier this year.
