Stamford Striders take part in the Nene Valley Races

Stamford Striders put in some fast performances at the Nene Valley Races on Saturday.

The two-distance event, organised by East Northamptonshire locals Janine Buck and Matt Snow, attracted competitors from as far afield as Australia this year.

But, with the 10-miler having been chosen by the Striders as one of their championship races, there was an excellent turnout from the town club.

Winner of the 10-mile event was Miguel Cann in 1:10:56, a blistering seven-minute mile pace over uneven ground.

He was followed across the line by Stamford Striders Ben Wall in 1:11:06 and Mark Popple in 1:11:70.

James Martin won the 20-mile race in 2:26:02, his pace still close to seven-minute miles, with Stamford Strider Gareth Williams second in 2:30:20 and Mark Elliott third in 2:41:46.

The races started and finished close to the Fotheringhay Castle site, covering trails through Elton and Yarwell, the 20-miler getting out to King's Cliffe.
