Stamford Town Cricket Club are the winners of the WAB Midweek League





Hosts Stamford were the winners of the WAB Midweek League after victory over Bourne in Friday's final at Uffington Road.

They triumphed by 27 runs to become the second-ever winners of the competition after Oakham's inaugural success last term.

Stamford made 122-4 from their 16 overs after batting first with Ben Doyle producing a man of the match performance.

He scored 43 runs in just 27 balls after opener Matt Holland had hit 35 before Bourne were restricted to 95 in reply as Kurt Storey top-scored with 29.

Sam Clarke of Stamford was the league's leading wicket-taker while team-mate Holland took the accolade for top run-scorer.

The final was the culmination of the 10-team round-robin competition that was organised by Stamford's Brett Bennett who named the league in memory of his grandfather.

The other six teams to have taken part in the competition were Oakham, Castor, Barnack, Uffington, Ketton Sports, Burghley Park, Ufford Park and Nassington.
