Deepings Swimming Club take part in the East Midlands Long Course Championships in Corby
Deepings Swimming Club produced a series of tremendous performances at the East Midlands Long Course Championships in Corby.
They had eight swimmers qualify to compete against the best in the region and had the added challenge of swimming long course in a 50 metre pool which is very different to the more usual short course competitions.
Qualifying times this year were also extremely tough so it was therefore an outstanding achievement to have so many swimmers competing in the 2024 championships.
The format of the championships was a series of heats to qualify for a final in each race.
Oliver Clarke in the boys/open 11/12 age group was the star performer after coming home with a bronze medal in the final of the 50m breastroke with a personal best of 39.78.
This time gives Clarke a ranking within the top 25 in the country and he also reached the final of the 200m butterfly, finishing seventh with a personal best of 3.07.51.
Noah Skinner in the boys/open 13 age group also had an outstanding championships, qualifying for four finals.
In the 200m backstroke final, he finished sixth in a personal best of 2.40.97, he was eighth in the 50m backstroke final with a personal best of 38.91, sixth in the 100m breastroke final with a personal best of 1.24.27 and finally seventh in the 200m breastroke final a personal best of 3.07.52.
Other swimmers who made the finals included Charlotte Jenkinson in the girls 14 years who came eighth in the 200m butterfly final in 2.51.92 and Jacob Briers who qualified for the boys/open 16 age group 200m butterfly final although he was unfortunately unable to compete in the final.
Aside from the finalists, there were other notable performances from James Cash who competed in the boys/open 14 Years 400m freestyle, finishing 15th overall with a personal best of 4.51.99 which took nine seconds off a club record that has stood since 2009.
Cash also competed in the 200m backstroke, finishing 11th overall with a personal best of 2.32.00 and the 200m butterfly after finishing ninth overall in 2.27.66 (personal best).
Corey Farley, competing in the girls 15 years age group, finished 16th overall with a time of 1.12.95 (personal best).
She also finished 14th overall in the 200m butterfly with 2.53.14 (personal best) and 13th overall in the 50m Butterfly with a personal best of 33.48.
Lottie Ava Flatters, competing in her first Regional Championships, performed brilliantly to finish 12th in the girls 11/12 age group 200m butterfly with a personal best of 3.25.90.
Finally Oliver Shepherd finished 12th overall in the boys/open 15 year age group 200m butterfly with a personal best of 2.37.77.
Head coach Sam Peroo was thrilled with the performances from the squad.
She said: "Our swimmers have done amazingly well just to qualify for the 2024 Regional Championships as the qualifying times this year were so tough.
"Apart from praising our swimmers on their achievements, I feel I also have to thank parents, grandparents, family members and coaches as you all have a vested interest in our swimmers and this is paying off with some great performances across the club."
