Uppingham Town beat Warboys Town to reach the final of the Peterborough Senior Cup
Two first half goals helped Uppingham Town book their place in the final of the Peterborough Senior Cup after a 2-1 away win at Warboys on Saturday.
Rob Forster and Jordan Neil netted the goals for Town who will now face either Stamford Bels or Holbeach United Reserves in the final at National League North side Peterborough Sports.
It was a controlled performance from Town in a keenly-contested semi-final with a Warboys side who had previously only lost one game at home all season.
Town boss Paul Sheehan said: "It was a really good win and we played well.
"It was a good game to be involved in against a committed side. It was two spirited teams who were trying their hardest to win it.
"I'm pleased with how we're doing at the moment because it's a long old season but we're now looking more like we did last year.
"We are getting that consistency and we're looking up for games. We have played well in the bigger games this season and hopefully that will continue because we've got a lot of big games coming up."
Town had started well and were the better side in the first half of the contest.
They had a great chance to take the lead after 10 minutes from a well-worked move as Forster sent Sam Blackwell away down the left and he squared the ball first time to the back post for Neil who shot over the bar from close range.
Town took the lead after 25 minutes when George Johnson's throw-in to Callum O'Berg was chested back and he hit a curling shot from 25 yards which came back off the post for Neil who feinted his finish to deceive two covering defenders before slotting home.
The lead was then doubled five minutes before the break as Ollie Lewin's cross from the right to O'Berg was flicked on and Forster netted at the back post from close range.
It gave Town a deserved lead at the break as they had most of the pressure while dealing with Warboys' threat from setpieces.
Uppingham had a great chance to put the contest beyond their hosts on the hour mark when Robbie Pearce sent Forster clear in a one-on-one but his shot was saved by the home keeper.
Warboys then piled forward in search of a way back into the match and Town goalkeeper Tom Hubbard made a tidy save to tip away a first time shot from 20 yards.
Hubbard was now the busier of the two keepers for the first time in the game and he made another excellent stop after getting down well to hold onto a low drive.
Two more routine saves followed before Warboys cut the deficit with two minutes remaining as Jake Thornton headed home from a corner.
However, they were unable to make any further impression on the game as Town dealt with a final setpiece before moving the ball forward and keeping possession in the last third to secure their place in the final.
They return to Premier Division action on Saturday when Deeping Rangers Reserves are the visitors to Tods Piece.
