Toft Ladies have been crowned Lincolnshire Women Golf Association Handicap League Division One South champions
Toft Ladies have been crowned Lincolnshire Women Golf Association Handicap League Division One South champions for the seventh time in the last 10 seasons.
The title was clinched in a rearranged match against Spalding Ladies after a tightly fought contest.
In the evening sun, on the 18th hole, Mandy Lees, playing in the last pairing out on the course, sunk a long putt that made all the difference.
It is an amazing achievement for Toft since most of the ladies' sections that the team plays against are at least twice the size.
This year, Toft ladies only had 10 players under the 20.4 handicap and had to play several times with ladies who had handicaps higher than the cut.
The county final will take place on Friday, September 13, when the team travels to Carholme to play Cleethorpes, the reigning champions.
Congratulations go to all the ladies who have played in the team this year – captain Cathy Lee, Louise Bradley, Shirley Kehoe, Alison Ravenhill-Nicol, Mandy Lees, Lorraine Robinson, Mairead Scott, Jackii Crockett, Sally Burton, Linda Moss and Viv Chappell.
There has been lots of other golf competitions at the club.
A Lincolnshire Waltz was played where Louise Bradley, Karen Parsonage and Rosemary Delaine-Smith beat Lorraine Robinson, Shirley Kehoe and Viv Chappell on countback, both teams having 82 points.
Shirley Kehoe and Sandie Street were victorious in the Sally Parker Cup with 36 points.
This was another countback result as Lorraine Robinson and Helen Roscoe also had 36 points.
A stableford competition saw Karen Parsonage win the nine-hole competition with 18 points, three ahead of Margaret Wilson who came in second.
The 18-hole competition was won by Judith Frame with 33 points with Rosemary Delaine-Smith coming in second.
A second stableford competition was held with Anne Barrett coming in victorious in the nine-hole competition with 18 points and Sandra Wildmore beating Sandie Streets to second place on countback when both returned 16 points.
Viv Chappell won the 18-hole competition with an excellent 38 points, two shots ahead of lady captain Mary Payne who came second after another countback with Linda Moss.
The penultimate friendly match of the season was played away against Scraptoft and Toft Ladies won 3-1.
The team consisted of Mary Payne, Margaret Wilson, Sandra Wildmore, Rosemary Delaine-Smith, Sally Burton, Judith Frame, Viv Chappell and Sandie Wilkin.
