Uppingham Town drew with Stilton in the Peterborough League Premier Division

Uppingham Town maintained their unbeaten start to the new Peterborough League season after sharing the spoils with Stilton on Saturday.

The 2-2 draw did see Town drop their first points of the Premier Division campaign but manager Paul Sheehan was content to return home with a point after a hard-working display against a Stilton side who were lively going forward.

Town started brightly and had two good chances in the opening couple of minutes with Rob Forster seeing a shot saved and Josh Sennett having another effort from a tight angle tipped over the crossbar by home goalkeeper David Beeny.

Forster was again thwarted midway through the first half by a top drawer save from Beeny who kept out his goalbound free-kick.

But the Town marksman wasn't to be denied and he side-footed home shortly after from Callum O'Berg's cross after he had been found by Olly Lewin's pass.

Stilton then got back on level terms 10 minutes before the break when Martin Turiccki was penalised for a push in the box and the hosts converted the resultant spot kick.

They then took the initiative and enjoyed their best spell of the half with Town goalkeeper Tom Hubbard making a good save before Stilton struck the post just before the interval.

Town regained the upper hand after the break and O'Berg shot over after breaking clear before Uppingham took lead again on the hour mark as Forster beat a defender before firing home a tidy finish.

Stilton rallied again though and equalised with 15 minutes remaining when some hesistant Town defending was punished after a free-kick was floated into the box and headed home.

The hosts were then reduced to 10 men late on when Kev Holt was red-carded for a high tackle on O'Berg.

And Uppingham could have snatched victory in the dying throes as Will Thomas beat the last man but, as the keeper closed him down, he shot narrowly over the bar.
