Uppingham Town Cricket Club are beaten by Leicester Ivanhoe in the Leicestershire League

Uppingham Town’s promotion push took something of a battering on Saturday as they were comprehensively beaten by Leicester Ivanhoe 2nds after slumping to a 108-run defeat.

In the stifling heat, the toss was going to be vital so when visiting skipper Danny Yeow called correctly, he had no hesitation in choosing to bat first.

The early exchanges gave little indication of what was to follow as Danny Dumford and Toby Rees opened up with their now traditional tight opening spell with Rees producing the stand out return of 2-19 from nine overs with four maidens thrown in for good measure.

Richard Newbery and Jamie Bolton started the rebuild by moving the score on from 21-1 to 80 before Scott Green bowled Newbery.

The arrival of Jack Gilford at the crease sparked Ivanhoe into some big hitting as they made hay during the middle overs as the Town attack wilted in the heat.

Gilford was out for 57 from just 38 balls, his knock including five sixes and two fours, before Akeel Jarral joined Bolton and the runs continued to flow before Bolton holed out for 78 (nine fours, one six).

The dismissal of Bolton sparked something of a recovery for Uppingham as Harry Tattersall ran through the tail claiming 4-29 as Ivanhoe were all out off last ball of their innings for 241. Scott Green (2-31) and Kash Munir (2-34) were the other successful bowlers.

With Uppingham's line-up missing their regular opening pair, it was Jack Vickerman and Tattersall who went out to start the pursuit – a pursuit that never really got out of first gear with Tattersall, Sam Hodson and Mark Cox all back in the pavilion within the first seven overs of the reply.

Only Vickerman with 40 ever really threatened to put together the sort of innings needed to see Uppingham to the target.

Danny Dumford’s 18 was the next best score as Ivanhoe rotated seven bowlers with six taking wickets.

That Ivanhoe came into the game bottom-of-the-table, accentuates the huge disappointment at a below-par performance.

Hopefully though this game can be a reset ahead of this weekend's trip to a Lutterworth side in form, who are top of the table, and looking to regain their Premier League status at the first attempt.

Uppingham Town 2nds narrowly lost out in their Division Seven East table-topping tussle with Aryans.

Aryans had been bowled out for 221 after batting first with Town falling just two runs short after losing nine wickets in their reply.

Uppingham Town 3rds recorded a convincing 151-run win against Market Overton 2nds in the Division Nine East derby clash.

Town made 230-6 from their 40 overs after batting first with skipper Andy Cross making 80.

Fellow opener Phil Nicholls (28) and Josh Skelham (22) also helped the Town cause with William Hiorns unbeaten on 41 at the close.

Chris Minckley took 2-30 for Marko who were then bowled out for 79 in their reply with Tim Wilford top-scoring with 30.

Ryan Sheehan produced a devastating spell of 4-4 from five overs which included two maidens with Joe Bennett taking 2-31 and Richard Merry 2-13.

Wakerley and Barrowden were 37-run home winners over Ashby Carington in the same division.

Wakerley had been bowled out for 156 after batting first with Matthew Key top-scoring with 62.

The visitors were then dismissed for 119 inside 22 overs as Gareth Packer picked up 5-38, Paul Maloney took 3-17 and Jonny White 2-32.
