Wolfie walks into his 15th BDO World Championships quarter-finals

Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams whitewashed American qualifier Jim Widmayer in the BDO World Championships on Wednesday night.

Adams dropped just two legs on his way to a 4-0 sets win over his off-colour opponent. He won the final seven legs despite struggling at times with his doubles.

“There is more to come from me,” Adams insisted. “If I can take my practice form on to the main stage I will be laughing.

“I was a bit loose tonight. Some straight tons should have been 140s and too many darts drifted into the one bed. Jim didn’t play his best though.”

Adams will play either Scotsman Ross Montgomery or Scott Waites of England in the quarter-finals today (Friday). It will be Adams’ 15th quarter-final appearance as he chases his fourth world title.

Adams hit 36 scores of 100 or more plus two 180s. His single dart average was 29.79, down on his average in his first round match, although he wasn’t pushed by his second round opponent.

Adams, 58, from Deeping, beat Dutchman Jan Dekker 3-1 in the first round of a competition he last won in 2011.

Adams took the first set 3-2 with a 32.77 average after twice starting with 180s, four times hitting 140 and twice completing 12-dart legs.

Dekker, who beat Adams at the quarter-final stage last year, threw his best darts of the match in the second set and won that 3-1 with a 31.97 average.

Adams hit back with some brilliant darts in the third set. He won it 3-2 with a cracking 33.34 average and in this one amassed two 180s and seven 140s.

The fourth set was one-sided as Adams cruised to a straight legs success to complete a promising start. He hit two more 180s and another three 140s in those three legs.

Overall Adams finished with a 31.37 average and Dekker 30.77.
