Wolfie wins Dutch Open Championship

Deepings darts ace Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams is after claiming his third Dutch Open Championship on Sunday.

The three times World Champion from Deeping St James won three sets to one in a competition that attracted a field of more than 3,000 players.

In a thrilling final, his opponent ‘Dazzler’ Darryl Fitton also came away celebrating after throwing the first televised nine-darter of 2015 in the third leg of the fourth set.

Adams walked away with the first prize while Fitton, from Urmston, Manchester, took the keys to his new Skoda car.

In the ladies final it was again Aileen de Graaf who won the title for the second year in a row in a thrilling final against Deta Hedman. Aileen won the final impressively 5-2.

Now all four darters are looking forward to their next challenge, The World Darts Trophy in Manchester, from February 26 to March 1 where they will be battling it out for a share of the £50,500 prize pot.

Stephen Holland, managing director of organisers BDO Events, said: “It is an exciting time for darts. The World Trophy will now see the very best of the world’s greatest players competing including both the Lakeside World Champions and now the Dutch Open Darts champions too. And, who knows, we may even see another amazing nine-darter.”

The men’s competition at the World Darts Trophy will be headed by the newly crowned Lakeside champion Scott Mitchell and his opponent from the epic final, the three-times former BDO World Champion and now Dutch Open Darts champion Adams.

Last 64: beat Frank Schasfoort 4-2

Last 32: beat Robin Blockx 4-0

Last 16: beat Jeffrey Sparidaans 4-3

Quarter-final: beat Richard Veenstra 5-4

Semi-final: beat Marcel Blik 2-1 (2-3, 3-0, 3-2)

Final: beat Darryl Fitton 3-1
