Annabel Murcott's Schools of Tae Kwon-Do compete at the World Championship
Stamford, Deeping and Bourne students from the seventh dan world master Annabel Murcott's Schools of Tae Kwon-Do took part in one of the largest martial arts championships.
Hosted by the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (TAGB), more than 20 countries such as America, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Poland and Spain put their top competitors forward to compete in an exciting selection of events at the World Championship.
The three-day tournament saw some of the world's finest fighters, patterns technicians and destruction champions come together to battle it out for the world title.
From more than 30 students, Murcott's club brought back no less than 15 medals including two new world champions.
The first title went to 25-year-old fifth degree black belt James Frost.
Frost had just missed out on his individual patterns medal on the Friday with the title going to sixth degree black belt Steve Miller from the USA who is a phenomenal technical opponent.
Frost came back and smashed it in the men's team patterns with fellow team-mates Jack Taylor and Matty Moore.
Star of the weekend was young Freddie Bellamy who was entering his first world championships at the age of 11 and came away with the boys green belt middleweight world title.
Freddie had a staggering five fights, with some tough opponents from around the world to get to the finals where his training paid off.
He kept calm, stuck to his coach's advice and just went forward by taking one point at a time. Freddie comes from a family that train together, his younger brother Arthur just missed out on a medal as well as his dad Terry.
Instructor Annabel Murcott said: "All our members really raised their game for this one and we are just over the moon with the results they came home with.
"But, more than anything, the pride I have in the way they all pulled and worked together as a team and supported each other was outstanding.
"The youngest member to compete was eight-years-old and the oldest was in their forties.
"To have a sport where you can watch a family train and compete at top level together is fantastic. Those memories are with them for life.
"I see so many families bond, support and respect each other in this sport, it makes training six days a week all worth while.
"Our focus is now on the next competition in September and the European Championships next year. It may be summer holidays for some, however, we never stop all year round."
Annabel currently has a few spaces for anyone that wishes to join with a new club opening up in Corby Glen. She can be contacted on 07714 323995 for a free trial.
