Go ahead to turn former King's Cliffe Endowed Primary School into ‘town houses’

Plans have been approved to turn a former village primary school into houses.

King's Cliffe Endowed Primary School could be transformed into four town houses after North Northamptonshire Council granted planning permission.

The building in Park Street was first opened in the early 1880s and closed in 2017 when the school moved to a £5.2 million site in King's Forest.

This was part of plans by the council to abolish its three-tier education system, which was made up of lower schools, middle schools and upper schools.

Since King's Cliffe Endowed School left the building it has remained empty.

The original elements of the building are believed to date back to the late 17th Century, with a large construction taking place in the mid 19th Century.

Smithers Purslow, on behalf of the applicant Rumrat Renovate, submitted plans in November 2022 to convert the Grade II listed building into four houses.

Further documents were submitted to the council in February this year which detailed plans to demolish the temporary classroom block and South store to use the land as a car parking

area.

Planning officers have now given permission for the building to be converted into one three-bedroom and three four-bedroom properties and to turn the Horsa building, which previously housed a nursery, into an annexe.

A planning application has also been submitted to turn the former Oundle Primary School site in Milton Road, which was also part of the three-tier system, into a boarding house.
