Laxton Junior School, in Oundle, team up with Johnny Reynolds Foundation to honour former pupil

A school has honoured a former pupil by supporting a sporting foundation set up in his memory.

The Johnny Reynolds Foundations was set up last year by the family of the sporty Oundle teenager who died in December 2023, aged just 19.

It is dedicated to giving local children and young adults the chance to realise their dreams and ambitions in their chosen sporting fields.

Johnny’s first school, Laxton Junior School, has chosen the foundation as its charity of the year and launched its fundraising efforts with a themed non-uniform day.

Staff and pupils were invited to wear their favourite sports tops to school - from football and rugby to water polo and darts - in exchange for a donation, raising £655.19.

Claire Henderson described her former pupil as ‘kind, fun-loving, and loyal’.

“At school, Johnny embraced every opportunity with a beaming smile, always prioritising participation and enjoyment above all else,” she said.

“His infectious positivity and natural camaraderie left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.”

The foundation has already helped 15-year-old rugby player, Tristan, who had earned a place with the Northampton Saints Developing Player Programme before suffering a spinal cord injury last year.

Tristan’s clubmates at Huntingdon Stags had raised most of the £8,000 needed for a specialist chair for wheelchair rugby, and the foundation contributed the rest.

“It is so heartwarming to see the efforts that Tristan’s teammates have made to help their friend,” said Johnny’s mum, Kate Reynolds.

“We were thrilled to be able to top up their funds to allow the wheelchair to be purchased.

“This really demonstrates the power that sport and sports clubs can have in all our lives, and why we feel it is so important to be able to support deserving children and young people to take part in sport.”

Laxton has already pencilled in several more fundraising events for 2025.
