1940s theme for St George on the Green in Grantham
Ladies... grab your swing skirts and gents... your fedoras, and get ready to celebrate St George’s Day 1940s style!
The annual St George on the Green event – on Sunday, April 26 – will have a ‘40s theme to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Even the music has a touch of ‘40s. Performing in the marquee is entertainer Douglas Gorin, singing wartime tunes, the Elite Dance School and ‘40s singer Sarah Jane.
Sarah will also sing on the open stage by the Guildhall, as will Swing Nouveau and four-piece acoustic rock band Rhesus Gene. Also performing on stage during the day will be the Beth Cresswell School of Dance.
If music is not your thing, there will be plenty more to do. Youngsters will love the mini waltzers, swing boats throw-a-ball-in-a-bucket and a cork shooter.
The popular Petticoat Lane stalls will be set up and craft stalls selling in the Guildhall ballroom, plus there will be plenty of choice when you fancy refreshments.
Ye Olde Tea Shoppe is another popular feature to return to St George on the Green, in the marquee where music will play. Among the treats served will be cream teas.
Not forgetting, of course, the traditional St George’s Day scout and guide parade through the town centre. Grantham and District goups will march from the bus station and through the town to a service at St Wulfram’s Church, setting off at 2pm.
Following the service, the scouts and guides will return to the bus station along the reverse route, arriving back at around 4.30pm.
