Flying Scotsman to haul freight for the first time in 30 years for Nene Valley Railway photoshoot
Steam buffs will have the rare chance to photograph the world-famous Flying Scotsman in unfamiliar mode later this month.
The locomotive will be getting its wheels dirty at Nene Valley Railway and pulling freight for the first time since 1994 - when it took part in a similar freight photographic event at the NVR.
The ‘Scotch Goods’ photographic charter takes place on Friday, February 28 from 9am, offering a day of photo opportunities for this rarely-seen event.
The famous 102-year-old engine, the first to break the 100mph barrier, will run between Yarwell and Peterborough Nene Valley Railway (PNVR) Stations.
This will include run pasts through Wansford Tunnel, Wansford Station, River Nene Bridge, Castor Straight, Longueville Junction, and PNVR.
There will also be cameos at Wansford involving loading and unloading, and the chance to take shots in the sheds.
An additional evening photographic charter session also takes place at Wansford Station from 5pm until 8.45pm.
The engine will take part in various movements with the good trains as well as staged 1950s-themed shots around the station with actors and props.
The day session runs until 4.30pm and costs £200, while places for the evening event are £100. Tickets are available from https://nvr.org.uk/product.php/569/flying-scotsman-scotch-goods
Both events have been organised by the Nene Valley Railway Wagon Group which recently unveiled plans for a new £2 million visitor attraction.
The charters are part of a series of special events during the Flying Scotsman’s much-anticipated visit to the NVR.
It’s part of the year-long Railway 200 celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of modern railways in Britain.
The nation’s favourite train will pull passenger trains on six weekend days, with many trips already sold out, as well as two fish and chip train services.
There will also be another chance to get that perfect shot on Wednesday, March 12 when Britannia makes a guest appearance.
The ‘Rule Britannia’ photographic charter event costs £140, and can be booked at https://nvr.org.uk/product.php/567/rule-britannia
