ALBUM REVIEW: Half Way There - Busted

The boys are back with a bang in an album that sounds like Busted used to sound.

The trio, who brought us quirky pop-punk hits such as ‘Year 3000’ and ‘Crashed the Wedding’, have returned to their roots with this offering.

I’m not a huge Busted fan but I can’t help but sing along to the aforementioned hits when I hear them on the radio.

And on first listen, the songs on this album sound very similar to each other.

Although, upon another listen it’s much better second time around. The boys (James Bourne, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis), like to weave a story into their songs and there are plenty of topical and relatable references.

In the first rack ‘Nineties’ the trio sing of an era of friends you ‘had to find’, rather than ‘those you have online’ and mention the days of listening to the Smashing Pumpkins and watching The Goonies.

There are flights of fancy in songs such as ‘Shipwrecked in Atlantis’ and ‘Race to Mars’ (with a reference to Tony Stark, who comic fans will know as Iron Man).

This album, which is out now, is sure to be a winner with Busted’s followers.
