No Hot Ashes - Hardship Starship: Album review

Hardship Starship is the full-length debut album for No Hot Ashes.

On the first listen, they sound very much like the early days of Arctic Monkeys with their distinctive accents.

‘Car’ bounces along nicely with a few quirky lyrics. Lead singer Taylor has a raspy voice and often has a tendency to be shouty and hysterical at times - especially in the track ‘Trouble’.

The better songs on the album must be ‘Extra Terrestrial’, ‘Hey Casanova’ and ‘W.Y.N.A’ due to the lyrics within the tracks and the familiarity to other bands I’ve heard before.

Most of the song lyrics are easy to pick up and you could imagine most people would be singing along after a couple of listens. They often tell a relatable story, mostly about love and heartache.

Speaking about ‘Extra Terrestrial’ the band say: “It’s a song about relationships and knowing someone better than you know yourself.

“The constant fat bass lines matched with shouty choruses implore you to move. We were trying for something catchy with this one.”

Hardship Starship have supported the likes of The Amazons and Blossoms.

The album is out now.
