ALBUM REVIEW: Songs from Aurora - Dave Fidler

This is a pretty album that will be enjoyed by fans of folk-rock.

From the "gently epic country-tinged opener" 'On The Line' to the "lilting harmonica-led lullaby" of 'Eternal Road', you could close your eyes and be transported to the dusty roads of deep America.

With an album in the vein of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Nick Drake and Bob Dylan, it’s surprising to learn that singer-songwriter Dave Fidler was actually born in Manchester, UK and has recorded the entire album there.

The themes of the songs range from "evocatively telling tales of performing to a Haitian women’s prison, to getting perilously trapped beneath a collapsed house in the midst of a Los Angeles earthquake."

In the promotional material for the album we learn that most of the songs were written within his trusty caravan ‘Aurora’ - providing its title, and it was recorded and produced at his personal studio: The Fuse, in Manchester.

It’s a great listen, beautifully arranged, and I can see this artist going a long way.

He is currently touring in the UK with his next date in the Cotswolds on May 16.

The album is out on May 10.
