As popular BBC One show Great British Bake Off returns to our screens, a group of amateur bakers returned to their monthly meeting after a break.

Members of Stamford Clandestine Cake Club, who have not met since May due to holidays, met on The Meadows on Sunday with cakes baked to the theme of ‘What a Novel Idea’. Cakes included a Sophie’s World Victoria Sponge, a chocolate cake as eaten by Bruce Bogtrotter in Matilda, a butterbeer cake from Harry Potter and a Joanne Harris Chocolat cake made from, you guessed it, chocolate!

The non-competitive club is always keen to welcome new amateur bakers to join in for cake and a chat with like-minded enthusiasts. E-mail organiser Sophie Douglas at stamfordccc@gmail.com to find out more.
