Burghley House will be running a host of fun-filled activities over the Easter break
Burghley House will be putting on a host of special events for visitors of all ages throughout the Easter break and beyond.
There will be everything from a unique outdoor art installation in the historic South Gardens to Easter craft workshops and Beastly Boring Burghley Tours, as well as the opportunity to explore the house, gardens and enjoy some adventure play at the estate in Stamford.
The botanic tapestry outdoor art installation, created by artist duo Graphic Rewilding, runs in the South Gardens until Easter Monday 21 April. Visitors can wander among and enjoy the striking giant botanical flags that celebrate the harmony and synergies between art and nature.
Forming a grand processional route through the south gardens, set against the dramatic façade of Burghley House, each unique design in this captivating series draws inspiration from the estate’s lush gardens, wildflower meadows and diverse ecosystems, as well as the intricate flora depicted in the still-lifes, marquetry, ceramics and textiles in Burghley’s collections. The installation will then move to the sculpture garden for the summer, from Saturday April 26 until the end of August.
Only open for a handful of weeks each year until Monday 21 April, the private South Gardens, created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century, offer wonderful views of the south front of Burghley House, Lion Bridge and the parkland beyond. Visitors can discover the beautiful summer house overlooking the lake, take a stroll among magnificent trees and enjoy colourful floral displays of spring flowers..
Visitors can also step back in time with special family tours of Burghley House, where they will be told some grizzly, gruesome and fascinating tales about the estate and the people who lived there throughout history by costumed guides. Tours, which are aimed at six to 11-year-olds, run between 9.30am and 10.30am.
Additionally, children and adults can join the Easter egg treasure hunt between10am and 5pm on Sunday April 20, where they need to solve the seasonal puzzle to win an egg. They can also take part in the Easter craft workshops.
There’s also the Hide & Secrets woodland adventure play area themed around William Cecil, the country’s first chief spymaster, where children can explore a series of fun-packed zones that lead to the Hidden Towers.
Advance booking for all activities is recommended.
