Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire helmer Danny Boyle directs this musical comedy – written by Love Actually scribe Richard Curtis – where struggling singer-songwriter Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) wakes up in ‘another world’ where The Beatles never existed, after a freak bus accident.
His fame then explodes as he performs songs that the world has never heard, in this fantasy that co-stars Cinderella’s Lily James – as Malik’s love interest Ellie Appleton – and British music sensation Ed Sheeran.
My colleague Mikey Clarke – improvising to the nostalgia in Boyle’s movie – then decided to review the film to the tune of the classic Beatles’ song...
Yesterday,
Is the film that I’ll review today.
And I’ve got a lot I want to say.
So I thought, I’d do it this way.
Trust in me,
This is quite the triumph musically.
The story justifies the ticket fee.
Yes, Yesterday . . . won over me.
It, is, set in a world, where The Beatles... don’t exist.
Just oooooooone guy, remembers their songs.
That’s the gist . . . of Yesterday.
Himesh Patel,
Quite the actor and singer as well.
He’s the guy from EastEnders . . . you couldn’t tell.
The perfect lead, in Yesterday.
Now, I, have to say, what is wrong,
It’s a tad too long.
There’s nothing ground-breaking here,
But I’ll still cheer, for Yesterday.
Finally, Curtis writing us more comedy.
Yeah, you’ll walk away so merrily,
Once you have seen . . . Yesterday.
