Former England, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Derby County and Southampton keeper Peter Shilton to headline Spalding event
A former England international goalkeeper will be meeting fans and regaling tales from his career at an upcoming event.
Peter Shilton – the Three Lions’ most capped player of all time – will be the guest speaker at a sportsman’s dinner at Spalding’s Springfields Events Centre in April.
The former England number one, who played at three World Cups, enjoyed a 31-year career in football, where he performed on the globe’s biggest stages.
The ex-Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Stoke City, Southampton, Derby County, Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient stopper’s dazzling career saw him lift back-to-back European Cups and a European Super Cup with Brian Clough’s Garibaldi Reds.

He also won two FA Charity Shields and a First and Second Division title on his way to making 1,005 club appearances – a record only bettered by one man, Lincolnshire’s Paul Bastock.
On the World Stage Shilton is England’s most capped player with 125 appearances, pulling on the jersey in three World Cups – Spain ‘82, Mexico ‘86 and Italia ‘90 – where he found himself involved in Diego Maradona’s infamous hand of God goal and his country’s heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to West Germany in his final competitive appearance.
There will be no shortage of anecdotes available when Shilton appears at Springfields on April 25.
The event, which begins at 7.30pm is being organised by Tonic Health.
Tickets for the fundraising evening and dinner cost £55 each or £400 for a table of eight. They can be booked by calling 01775 725059 or emailing events@tonic-health.co.uk.
Shilton isn’t the only top sports star set for an appearance in the area this year, with snooker aces Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Dennis Taylor heading to Boston next month.
