Fenland Airfield's events will take you to the skies

There is a real buzz around a number of events which will be taking place over the skies this summer in South Holland.

There are a host of events taking place at the Fenland Airfield in Holbeach St Johns over the summer months, in addition to all of the usual offerings such as the incredible flight experiences.

The resident De Havilland Chipmunk offers flight experiences to the public through Fenland Flying School. This aircraft is a basic trainer and a very large number of Air Cadets had their first flight in one during their service.

You’ll be able to take flight in the aeroplane that has become affectionately known as “The Poor Man’s Spitfire,” the de Havilland Chipmunk offers superb handling and a very graceful flight experience, earning its place in aviation halls of fame as a firm favourite.

You can strap in and find out for yourself why the Chipmunk is such a dearly loved aeroplane.

In addition to this, on Saturday, May 28, and again on Saturday, June 25, Fenland Aero Club Chairman David Petters will be bringing the North American T6 Harvard to Fenland to operate pleasure flights.

This is a WW2 advanced trainer (next step for a pilot in the war was a Spitfire).

There will be aerobatic flights and a Battle of Britain experience, a very popular historical flight and briefing experience.

Other events on the agenda (with more to come), include ‘Scurry of Chipmunks’ - a gathering of Chipmunk aircraft for people to view on Sunday, May 1, and Monday, May 2.

At this event there will be formation flights and plenty of activity through the day.

There’ll be a special menu in the airfield’s own Runways Restaurant too.

On Sunday, July 3, there will be the Bulldog fly in.

The Bulldog replaced the Chipmunk, and was another popular aeroplane with Air Cadets.

For more information see the airfield’s website.
