Taking the plunge and raising money for dementia charities in annual duck race
Lucky the giant duck will be taking the plunge for an annual duck race this weekend.
On Sunday (September 3) visitors will get the chance to see 3,000 individually sponsored rubber ducks be released into the river Welland to support the Deepings Lions Club.
This year the Hegarty Championship Cup race encourages visitors to sponsor a duck for £1 and if you are lucky the first, second and third ducks in the main race will secure a cash prizes for their sponsors.
There will also be 21 larger ducks which will be released in some additional races where all of the funds will be donated to the South Lincs Dementia Support and Alzheimer’s Research.
As well as the duck race which will commence at 2.30pm and three other sponsored races, visitors can enjoy the range of entertainment from 12pm.
There will be some fairground rides,various stalls to enjoy, an ‘Estate Agents Dash’, a ‘Shop’s Derby’, ‘Publican’s Chase’ and a Punch and Judy show.
Deepings Lions Club President Dave Turner said: “We’re all very much looking forward to the duck race. It’s sure to be a fantastic day for all the family.”
The Deepings Lions have been fundraising for 30 years in and around The Deepings and surrounding villages. During this time the club has managed to raise over £250,000 for good causes in the area as well as international campaigns.
Winners of the Hegarty Championship Cup race will be announced at 4pm, so make sure to stick around to find out if you have won any prizes.
