A lecture on a monarch who overcame a disability while on the throne will be held in Grantham.

The Arts Society Grantham has organised a talk centred around Richard III at the Guildhall Arts Centre Theatre on Tuesday October 17.

Delivered by Tobias Capwell, a historian specialising in medieval armour and armoury, the lecture is titled ‘The Scoliotic Knight: Encounters with Richard III’.

When the remains of Richard III were unearthed in Leicester 10 years ago, his skeleton confirmed that indeed, as legend had it, he suffered from curvature of the spine (Scoliosis).

This lecture investigates how Richard was able to overcome his disability to become a fine military king, leading his troops into war and thus justifying his claim to the throne of England.

The secret was in his specially modified armour which enabled him to achieve greatness in the battlefield

Complimentary tea and coffee is served from 9.50am before the lecture to members and their guests; the audience is requested to be seated by 10.50am for the lecture which runs from 11am until 12pm.
