Lecture at Grantham Guildhall to focus on EH Shepard, creator of Winnie the Pooh and other characters
A lecture on a “much-loved” artist who created some iconic characters will be held in Grantham.
The Arts Society Grantham will host its next event on Tuesday November 21 at the Guildhall from 11am to 12pm.
The lecture, delivered by James Campbell, is entitled ‘Shepard’s Christmas’ and centres around artist EH Shepard, creator of the lovable Pooh, Piglet and other such characters.
An organiser of the lecture said: “EH Shepard loved Christmas, and this lecture describes, including his own words much of the magic and joy of successive festive seasons, from those of his own childhood to others throughout his long life.
“We see a range of artistic styles from full colour images to pen-and-ink personal Christmas cards, with cartoons, drawings and watercolours, some featuring the iconic images from the Wind in the Willows (the snow in the Wild Wood…) and Winnie-the-Pooh (Pooh and Piglet from The House at Pooh Corner).
“Many of the images have not been published for over fifty years.”
Complimentary tea and coffee will be served from 9.50am, with the audience requested to be seated by 10.50am.
