VJ 75: Commemoration weekend on August 15 and 16 will be held at the Anglia Motel in Fleet, near Holbeach
Fundraiser Harold Payne is holding an event at the Anglia Motel in Fleet this weekend to mark the 75th anniversary of VJ Day.
Vintage vehicles will be on display at the two-day event on the grass at his 15-acre site off the A17. Entry is free but donations are welcome.
“All donations will go to the nurses at Holbeach Hospital for the fantastic work they have done for the last three months looking after our local people,” Mr Payne said. “The staff are absolutely brilliant.”
Military vehicles on display will include the ‘duck’. This is a land and water craft which Mr Payne paid to be rebuilt himself. He’ll also have an FV432 on display (an armoured personnel carrier used in the first Gulf War.)
He added: “The museum will be open over the weekend. Veterans George Wing, Ernie and Sid will be there. They are the last few veterans and George is 100 in October. They will be behind a glass screen and two metres away so people can meet them.
“A one way system will be in place and the cafe will be open.”
Caravans are also welcome at the event and it runs from 9am until 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. Social distancing must be followed.
