Penguinz band gets everyone up on their feet at Sutton Bridge gig
GIG REVIEW: PENGUINZ
The Riverside, Sutton Bridge
On Bank Holiday Sunday, my son and I spent a wonderful afternoon watching the excellent covers band Penguinz.
The three-piece of brothers Patrick (vocals and guitars), and Harry Walsh (drums) and Jim Shortland (bass) played three sets over a period of more than three hours and certainly entertained the packed pub.
Based in the Spalding area, the young band have been playing the local circuit for a few years now and are certainly extremely accomplished musicians – even as I was speaking to them after their first set, they were tapped up for another small summer festival.
With covers ranging from the punk pop of Green Day and Blink 182 and the British rock of Dire Straits and Stereophonics to classic artists such as Neil Young, Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac, the band cater for all ages and tastes and by the end had most in the pub on their feet and dancing.
You can catch them this summer at the Anderby Rocks Festival near Skegness on July 15, at Anderby Village Hall on July 29, at The Punchbowl in Spalding on July 30, The Drayman’s Arms in Spalding on August 12 and back at The Riverside in Sutton Bridge on August 27.
Check them out on Facebook by searching Penguinzbanduk, and for bookings email patrickwalsh858@gmail.com or call Patrick on 07552238431. And search Riverside bar and grill on Facebook for details of upcoming gigs there.
