Dogdyke Pumping Station host their 2021 open day this weekend

Dogdyke Pumping Station is steaming again as organisers gear up for their big open day this weekend.

An impressive 1856 steam engine will be in action this Sunday (September 5), with the whole family invited to go along between 12.30-4.30pm.

The engine drives a 24-foot diameter wooden scoop wheel, which lifts water out of the lower drain to keep farmland dry.

It is the only surviving engine built by Bradley and Craven of Wakefield and the only example of this type of scoop wheel pump to still be lifting water by steam power.

The pump attendant’s cottage houses a museum with displays of the site’s history and Fenland land drainage equipment. Refreshments are available, as well bric-a-brac and plant stalls.

Dogdyke Pumping Station is located east of Tattershall Bridge on the A153 Sleaford to Horncastle road, with an access road through Bridge Farm at LN4 4JG. There is plenty of car parking space.
