Sutterton Farm welcome visitors for its third year of pumpkin picking
Pumpkin carving season is right around the corner, so why not head down to Sutterton farm and see the wide variety of quirky pumpkins and crafts on offer.
The Pick Your Own event will be returning for its third year offering a wide range of vegetables, gourds and activities for adults, children and babies.
Owners will be welcoming visitors on Saturday, October 14, Sunday, October 15 and Saturday, October 21 through to Sunday, October 29 between 10am and 3pm.
Sutterton farm grows a varied colour pallete of pumpkins, some of which are pink, red, orange, blue and white and will be priced between £1 and £5.
Annice Firth who is one of the owners, said: “We like to mix it up a little bit. People expect pumpkins to just be orange but there are so many amazing colours out there - it’s why I love growing pumpkins, they're so pretty.
“Every single year we try to include some different varieties. The Crown Prince pumpkin is the best eating variety - I am always encouraging people to eat it. I recommend making them into wedges and adding some chilli flakes –they taste delicious.”
Visitors can get stuck into the activities on site including the ceramic craft area for children and adults, where people can paint and decorate pumpkins, witches and spiders, starting from £3.
There will also be a pedal tractor, Sense charity stall and tombola and Wayne The Bus will be back by popular demand serving hot drinks.
One of the new activities coming this year will be a baby sensory corner which will include a ball pit, scented sensory bags, shakers, floor mats and lights.
There will also be a mud kitchen and piano, which has been painted with black chalk for children to decorate and play with.
Annice said: “Watching all of the kids run to the pumpkin patch filled with excitement is absolutely fantastic and I love it. We like to offer a range of crafts and activities where people can have a bit of fun whilst also catering for everyone’s budget.”
Sutterton Pick Your Own pumpkin patch will also be open to schools, nurseries and disability groups to enjoy picking pumpkins, taking part in a scavenger hunt and enjoying the discounted craft sessions.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome if kept on the lead.
There is also lots of fun set for visitors at Tyrrell’s Farm in Cowbit, as it is gearing up for the annual celebration of the seasonal squash.
The family run farm will be opening for its third year every weekend starting from Saturday, October 7 between 10am and 4pm. It will also be open every day in the October half term.
