REVIEW: The Levellers play the Gliderdrome in Boston
Back in the '90s The Levellers were one of the most famous bands in Britain, playing a record-breaking headlining act at Glastonbury to more than 300,000 people.
And their music has stood the test of time, keeping its indie, folk and rock roots.
When I told people I was going to see The Levellers I was surprised by how many people didn't know who they were. But I just had to sing a few lines of their songs 'What a Beautiful Day', 'One Way', and 'Just the One', and people nodded their heads with an 'aha!'
While the band, (and myself) have grown much older, their set at Boston's Gliderdrome (yes, that's Boston in Lincolnshire) on Friday (June 15), was full of energy and didn't let up until the very end.
Frontman Mark Chadwick's voice hadn't changed a bit, although you would be hard-pressed to recognise him from pictures of his younger self.
Supported by rock guitarist Ginger Wildheart, formerly of the band The Wildhearts, it was clear that the majority of the audience were there to see The Levellers alone and Ginger's set was, sadly, quite forgettable.
But The Levellers gave us a night we won't forget.
