Spalding dance school's Boston shows aim to unite us all
Two variety shows will aim to bring people of all abilities together through the power of creativity.
Organised by Spalding based Diamondz School of Dance, Unify Through Creativity will take place in Boston over the weekend.
The event will see dance performances in contemporary, street dance, cheer dance and musical theatre, with a live band, sign communication, singing and spoken word.
Among the performances will be Rock School Bus CIC Youth Band, Hub Dance Team - Unify Adults Dance Company, Callum Brazzo - a neurodivergent artist - and a BSL (British Sign Language) sign language interpreter.
Abbi Thompson, who founded the dance group in 2007, said: “We wanted to put on a show to celebrate the school’s 15th anniversary this year so we’ve taken the opportunity to do it this way.
“It’s going to be really inclusive and there’s a lot going on. Some of our students worked with the Unify Adults Dance Company, which is an SEND group based in Lincoln so we’ve got a documentary to show on that.
“The students have learnt sign language too, so that will be incorporated in a dance.
“We’ve also worked with Callum Brazzo to learn more about autism and he will be a part of the show. It’s going to be busy show.”
The performances will take place at Haven High Academy in Boston this weekend.
There will be a show on Saturday at 6pm and an earlier showing at 2pm on Sunday.
Abbi added: “I really wanted to mark where we are now and where we want to go in the future.
“I think it’s important to have a more inclusive future but this is only achievable by working with other people to find a way to make it work.
“We are going to work with different groups to find out how we can bring it all together.”
