Nene Valley Railway, between Stamford and Peterborough, to host visit from guest loco Britannia
Hot on the wheels of the Flying Scotsman, another prestigious engine is heading to a heritage railway as special guest.
Nene Valley Railway, which runs between between Yarwell, Wansford and Peterborough, welcomes the Britannia steam loco 70000 to its site for a rare visit next week.
For fans of statistics, Britannia was built in Crewe in 1951, with the loco and tender weighing a massive 153 tons combined and can carry a whopping seven tons of coal and 4,250 gallons of water.
She hauled London to Norwich trains before becoming a regular engine for The Hook Continental, connecting London to the Netherlands.
There is the chance to get behind the controls of the esteemed loco with Britannia Driving Experience days on Thursday and Friday (March 13 and 14). Drivers must be aged 18 or over.
Or if you’d prefer to simply sit back and enjoy the ride, there are trips aboard Britannia on the 7.5-mile line on Saturday and Sunday (March 15 and 16).
And you could top that off with a fish and chip supper aboard the Britannia Jolly Fisherman on Saturday evening.
The visit is part of Railway 200, which commemorates the opening of The Stockton and Darlington Railway back in 1825.
