The South, featuring former members of The Beautiful South, to perform at Newark Palace Theatre




Former members of The Beautiful South will perform the group’s hits and more with their latest band at Newark’s Palace Theatre. The South are at the venue on Sunday (October 2).

The Beautiful South had a string of hits between 1988 and their split in 2007.

In the 25 years since the band’s demise, The South have been touring theatres and festivals up and down the country.

They are a nine-piece band that includes original Beautiful South members singer Alison Wheeler and saxophone player Gaz Birtles.

Since Dave Hemingway, the original singer, left the group at the end of 2016, Gaz has moved across to front the band with Alison and taken on vocal duties.

The full band is Alison Wheeler (vocals) Gaz Birtles (vocals) Phil Barton (guitars) Steve Nutter (bass) Dave Anderson (drums) Karl Brown (percussion) Gareth John (trumpet) Su Robinson (saxophone) and Andy Price (keyboards).

They bring back the full sound and arrangements of timeless classic tracks, such as A Little Time, Perfect 10, Rotterdam, Song For Whoever, Old Red Eyes Is Back, and Don’t Marry Her.

In addition, the will entertain fans with album tracks as well as a few choice South originals.

It is then back to the Eighties a week today with music from pop’s greatest decade in The 80s Show.

The audience can sing and dance the night away to hits from the likes of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, Wham, GoWest, OMD, Erasure, and Elton John.
