Stage is set for Brassed Off in Spalding

After accountants say the Grimely Colliery is worth more money closed than it is open, 1,200 jobs are on the line - along with its brass band, writes Patrick Walsh.

And so the stage is set for the St Nicolas Players as they perform the classic show 'Brassed Off ' from Wednesday, October 17, at Spalding's South Holland Centre.

Based on the multi-award winning film, the play is set in 1994 and is centred around the Yorkshire town of Grimley.

The conductor is focused on reaching the National Championships but nobody has any hope until a girl named Gloria joins the band.

At first, Gloria is mocked but soon becomes the band’s only chance at winning and she puts everything on the line for it, raising as much money as possible to get them to the Royal Albert Hall.

The show is on from October 17 until Saturday, October 20, at the centre, with a completely new band that has been put together specifically for this production.

Shows are at 7.30pm and tickets cost £12 (full price) or £10 (concessions.)
