Gosberton, Sutton St James and Holbeach Hurn gardens will throw open the gates

With the promise of better weather to come and plants blooming into life, it will soon be time for spending hours in the garden.

A number of private gardens across South Holland are set to be open to the public all in the name of charity.

The National Open Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.

This year, there will be a group opening in Gosberton at Millstone House and 4 Salem Street on Sunday, June 19. The owners of the two private houses will be welcoming visitors into their gardens for a tour between noon and 5pm for a combined admission of £5.

There will be home made teas available at Salem Street, where the delightful secluded garden includes mixed borders, a small water feature and a productive vegetable plot. Visitors will be able to take in the colourful herbaceous borders hidden by a privet hedge at Millstone House where the dappled shade creates a feeling of relaxation at the rear of the house.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, visitors will be able to take in more than three acres of garden and meadow, plus a six and a half acre wood, in Sutton St James.

Francis and Maisie Pryor, who have developed the garden over 20 years, will be opening Inley Drove Farm between 11am and 5pm for an admission fee of £5.

The garden has been planted for colour, scent and wildlife with double mixed borders and less formal flower gardens framed by hornbeam hedges.

In Holbeach Hurn, The Old Vicarage on Low Road and The Old White House on Baileys Lane will be open for viewing on Sunday, June 12.

For a combined fee of £5, visitors to the former will fine two acres of stunning gardens with a pond and an old paddock area filled with shrub roses and herbs.

The latter offers half an acre of mature garden and a walled kitchen garden as well.
