VE DAY 75: Sound of Spitfire community radio broadcasts day of special programmes
UPDATED WITH THE LATEST SCHEDULE:
Community Internet radio station, Sound of Spitfire, will be running a series of special shows commemorating VE Day on Friday, May 8.
Station boss, Chris Hyde, said: “The aim is to bring a ‘virtual street party’ atmosphere, but also remember those that served."
There will be a two minute silence at 11am. At 3pm will be a one minute silence to coincide with the Royal British Legion lowering of standards.
Then, at 5pm and just after 9pm, the station will be covering the Dame Vera Lynn Doorstep sing-a-longs.
Dame Vera Lynn, 103, will be leading a national sing along to the classic song 'We'll Meet Again' from a window at her home in Sussex.
The radio station will also be playing music during the day from the '40s to the '50s and '60s, and possibly later some '70s and '80s, to add to the party spirit.
