Working weekend in Fosdyke will double as a celebration for organiser Paul Beecham's 60th birthday

A working weekend, to be held in Fosdyke on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, will be an extra special event.

Not only is the event able to go ahead following the uncertainty of the coronavirus lockdown, it’ll also mark the organiser’s big birthday.

Paul Beecham, who has organised many local fundraising events for a number of years, will turn 60 on Monday (August 3) and couldn’t think of a better way to mark his birthday than with friends.

The working weekend, to be held at Oldershaws Farm in Fosdyke, will raise money to support those with dementia and see vehicles at work ploughing and cultivating the land.

“It’s not a competition,” Paul said. “It’s a fun day. It is open to people to come and watch but we ask everybody to socially distance and will be doing track and trace.

“We will need people to provide a contact number.

“Originally, I had planned to have vinyl records playing and a hog roast but we are unable to do that now.

“We will not be able to provide food or drink so ask people to bring their own.

“As it’s my 60th birthday I wanted to do something with all my mates. Because of COVID we have had to cancel previous events.

“My mother-in-law passed away from dementia. It is a charity that we wanted to support.”

Paul, who works for the Moulton Bulb Company, said that the event will be signposted at Fosdyke Bridge so that people know where to come.

He said that while all are invited, they must follow the social distancing rules.

The event runs from 10am until around 4pm both days and the postcode to the field is PE20 2DG.

“It is a very large space but if people do not follow social distancing they could be asked to leave,” he said.

Last year, a working weekend in Weston raised £341 for Spalding and Holbeach Macmillan Cancer Support.

Look out for the signs to the event and venue at Fosdyke Bridge.
