World speed record holder Don Wales, nephew of Donald Campbell, to speak at Bourne Motor Racing Club meeting

A world record-breaking speedster and relative of two legendary racers is set to hit top gear for local motor racing enthusiasts next month.

Don Wales, who has broken several speed records, will be the guest speaker at Bourne Motor Racing Club’s next monthly meeting on Thursday, October 10.

His grandfather Sir Malcolm Campbell and uncle Donald Campbell between them broke more than 21 world speed records on land and water in their range of bluebird craft.

Don holds the world land speed record for a steam-powered car, a 10-year project which culminated in the successful attempt at Edwards Airforce base in California.

He also held the UK land speed record for an electric car for 12 years, and the Guinness world record for fastest ride-on lawn mower.

The professional photographer will give a talk on the incredible achievements of the Campbell legacy over the past century.
