Events in Grantham, Bourne, Oakham, Holbeach and Spalding among the Christmas events enjoyed at the weekend

A series of seasonal events helped residents get firmly in the Christmas spirit this weekend – as many people also experienced snowfall.

Shoppers hunted for gifts at an array of markets – many of which showcased some of the county’s most inventive independent sellers – and residents came together at community events that helped kick-start the December Christmas countdown in style.

In Bourne, a fabulous firework show rounded off a day of Christmas cheer – which featured a market and the town’s lights switch-on.

A skating rink and Christmas tree festival were the order of the day in Grantham – running from Tuesday until Sunday at St Wulfram’s.

Meanwhile, a ten-year-old primary school school pupil won the chance to press the button at Oakham’s Christmas lights switch-on – and she performed the honour in front of a crowd who had braved the icy weekend weather to mark the occasion.

A live donkey was among the animal friends to play a starring role during a busy day of festivities in Holbeach. As well as a festive fair, there were activities in All Saints’ Church and a lights switch-on on Saturday.

Hundreds of people also headed to Springfields Exhibition Centre in Spalding for the Merry Makers Market. There were tasty treats and hand-made gifts galore – as sellers came from across the region to try to catch the eye of present-buyers.

Many of us also woke to snow on Sunday morning – and this gallery shows some of the wintry scenes we enjoyed, as residents made most of a brief coating of the white stuff.
