2024 has seen The Stranglers celebrate their 50th anniversary. The group’s 19 Top 40 albums and 24 UK Top 40 singles include such hits as Peaches, No More Heroes and Walk On By, Always The Sun, Strange Little Girl and the mercurial Golden Brown, among many others.
In 2019, they released their 19th studio album, Dark Matters. Reaching Number 4 in the UK charts, this innovative album pushed the boundaries of their sound, incorporating elements of electronic and alternative rock showcasing the band's continued creativity and fearless exploration of new musical territories.
Fellow punk pioneers Buzzcocks – whose classic hits include Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve), Orgasm Addict and What Do I Get? – remain a massive influence on the alt-rock and contemporary pop-punk scenes. Following the death of frontman Pete Shelley, founding member Steve Diggle took over vocal duties and Buzzcocks continue to tour the world.
The headline concerts are part of an ongoing partnership with Lincolnshire County Council and Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor to bring world class artists to perform in this outstanding historic location.
Cuffe and Taylor promoter Mark Harrison said: “The Stranglers are icons of British rock. Their music has been celebrated for 50 years and to have such pioneers as Buzzcocks joining them on the bill will make for a truly memorable concert.
“We can’t wait to welcome both bands to Live at Lincoln Castle.”
Coun Lindsey Cawrey (Con), executive member for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, added: “It’s exciting to announce The Stranglers will be playing Lincoln Castle on June 13. They’ve created some of the best punk rock anthems from the 1970s and 1980s such as Golden Brown, No More Heroes, Always the Sun and Peaches.
“And I don't expect there will be anyone in Lincoln Castle not dancing and singing along to Buzzcocks' Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't). I can't wait to see them!"
