Free help with the cost of living available in Rutland through Christians Against Poverty

A free guide to outsmarting the rising cost of living is being offered later this month.

The ‘life skills’ course is being run by Christians Against Poverty (Cap) in Oakham, starting on Friday, October 18.

Those attending can learn tips to manage a tight budget, including how to better cope with the cost of food, heating and energy.

The course is aimed at families and individuals, with the eight weekly sessions focusing on different topics.

Each runs from 10am to midday and is followed by a free lunch.

Merry Willcock, life skills manager for Cap in Oakham, said: “It can feel like a constant battle when you’re struggling to stay out of debt, eat well and juggle all of the other things life is throwing at you.

“Struggling financially often makes people feel really isolated and can negatively affect their mental health.”

She added that Cap is there for anyone who might benefit from learning new skills in a friendly group environment.

“Each week we cover different topics, from how to cook healthy meals on a tight budget to ways to save money on things like energy, food and other essentials. We will also look at building healthy relationships and better communication skills.

“We do this over eight free sessions with lunch included, but we hope all those who attend will make friendships that last a lot longer.

“We also offer one-to-one coaching with a trained life skills coach for members who would like further support.”

Sessions are at Oakham Baptist Church in Melton Road.
